Walking down the street, you might think that Loro Park and Siam Park are the main sponsors of the island – you can see the logos of both parks everywhere (literally EVERYWHERE) and it’s scary to open the fridge ;) Parrots and orcas, which are the symbol of Loro Park and a dragon representing Siam Park, smile at us from everywhere.
These some of the largest amusement parks are owned by one person – an investor from Germany, and you have to admit that business is going quite well for him.
We just devoted one day to Loro Park, which is located just outside Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.
We, of course, arrived at the site by car, we were on site only around 11 and still managed to find a parking space close to the park (on the street, free parking) without any problem. There are also special free tourist trains to Loro Park from the center of Puerto de la Cruz.
However, before we even talk about Loro Park….
Table of contents
Teide – the volcano towering over Tenerife
Teide is the largest peak in all of Spain and can be seen from virtually anywhere on the island. Even from our hotel. It looks best at dawn, of course :)
Also under the Loro Park Teide looks amazing!
Loro Park – or the zoo
The entire park is actually a zoo with additional shows and a botanical garden. Very large zoo :) It’s worth getting a map with the times of each show and plan your day so as to be at each performance. Among the things to see are. performances by: seals, dolphins, orcas and parrots.
If someone told us to choose just one, we would definitely recommend plowing, but it’s worth finding time for each of them. The performances last about 20 minutes, but if you want to get a good seat it is best to be 15 minutes early.
In the case of an orca show, a good place means one from which you do not come out wet ;) Rest assured, they are clearly marked, and before the show itself they warn several times about the so-called “splash zone” :)
At the very entrance to Loro Park, a photo with the parrots awaits, which can be purchased for €6 on the way out of the park. We said thank you :)
In addition, Loro Park impresses with the variety of species and the grandeur with which the attractions have been designed. Here you will find the world’s largest penguinarium (yes! penguins in the Canaries – almost like Dubai ;) ) and the largest collection of parrots in the world (about 350 species).

The park also boasts a very large pool with dolphin shows and a long tunnel – an underwater aquarium.
Here you will also find white tiger, panthers, jaguars, gorillas, turtles, anteaters, sloths, flamingos, crocodiles…. and everything you would want in a zoo.
We also liked the garden where birds fly freely among visitors. On a special path, you can climb high into the trees to visit the birds’ natural habitats.
In addition, there are several zones designated in the park, where you can sit quietly in a shady spot and have a small picnic. It is not likely to be a problem to bring your own food and drink (animals are not allowed to be fed, of course). It is also full of souvenir and food stalls.

Loro Park – a “must have” in Tenerife!
Do we recommend? Yes, especially for families with children.
Would we go there a second time? No, we much prefer to see animals in their natural habitat.
Nonetheless, if you are in Tenerife and have never seen live orcas, dolphins, etc. before, in our opinion it is worth spending a half day/full day to visit Loro Park.
You can find literally tons of photos from Loro Park in the photo gallery below:
