If you follow our blog, you probably remember an opportunity from a few months ago that we promoted quite actively. At the beginning of the year there was an offer for cheap flights to the Caribbean by the then unknown airline Air Europa.
Flights cost about PLN 700 per person roundtrip, so the question immediately arose: and where is the catch? The catch was, one – departure from Madrid. A quick calculation of the cost of the flight, a tally of vacation days and we were already sitting at the laptop with passports and credit card in hand.
Our dream has come true – we bought tickets to Cuba!
When will Cuba change?
We had always wanted to fly to Cuba, and the recent changes in relations between Cuba and the United States motivated us even more – we wanted to see the island as it had been for the past 50-60 years. So it would be a sin not to take advantage of such an opportunity ;)
The warming of relations, the opening of financial markets, increased frequency of flights and ferries, and, well, easier to obtain visas, all mean that Cuba will no longer be the same country. The only question that remains is whether these changes will be for the worse or for the better, but that is left in the hands of the “Comrades.”
What we definitely recommend to you right from the start is to fly to Cuba as soon as possible! Before it changes! Before a raid by American tourists and American capital changes the place,…
Planning…
So the opportunity presented itself – we bought tickets for the end of the season, ie. the end of April and the beginning of May, so we had some time to quietly organize the whole trip.
Of the things that need to be arranged before departure are, of course, a visa (you can through the Embassy in Warsaw or intermediaries such as travel agencies), accommodation and insurance.
Note – in order to get a visa, it is necessary to confirm your accommodation booking! There is unlikely to be a problem with a visa, and accommodations are also easy to book. Forget Booking or AirBnB, however (at the time of writing this post, it is still not possible to book accommodations from Poland). Accommodations are booked via email, and a printout of the confirmation and the address of the lodging (or hotel) for at least the first day of your stay in Cuba is required for your visa application. You will still need airline tickets for your visit.
Much more will not be arranged from a distance :) We planned our trip, i.e. the route we wanted to take, but without much detail. We were counting on being able to arrange accommodation and transportation locally (Internet in Cuba is definitely a luxury good, which means for us it’s paradise on earth!).
Are you curious how we did? How do Cubans live without the Internet, cars and all sorts of goods that we have on a daily basis, but don’t appreciate?
We will be posting an account of this fantastic adventure here in the coming days.
You are welcome! :)
