Why Uniejów Thermal Baths?
One of our favorite places we’ve been is Iceland. In addition to the memorable views and rugged spaces, there was one aspect during the day that made sure we were always rested. As if we weren’t tired after an intense day, we were happy to go to the city’s pools, where the water was as high as 40 degrees. There are many such pools in Iceland, some with slides and some limited to a swimming pool and a few hot water pools. There are also quite a few more wild, natural ones – whatever you like. Fantastic relaxation, blissful rest, picturesque views all around and that escaping steam resulting from temperature differences.
Fortunately, not far from Lodz in the center of Poland, we also have warm geothermal springs that can (and even should!) be used all year round. We are, of course, talking about the thermal pools in Uniejów, but in this post we will additionally show you some places that are worth seeing while in the area.
Uniejów Thermal Baths
However, let’s start with the most popular place. The Uniejów Thermal Baths consist of a thermal and swimming pool complex, a knight’s castle and catering facilities.
The complex has both indoor and outdoor pools open all year round! That’s right, all year round “under the cloud” you can warm up in pools of hot, therapeutic brines that flow from a depth of more than 2,000 meters. Although many people come here in the summer, in our opinion, it is a much more interesting experience to sit in the water at a temperature of approx. 35 degrees, when the air temperature is as low as possible. During our stay, the air temperature was 8 degrees and you could see the hot water evaporating.
The pools themselves have whirlpools, jets, whips, and you can also use the waterslide and swimming pool. There is a children’s wading pool with a ship in the indoor section, and there is no shortage of activities for the little ones outside either. The complex also offers a sauna area (with an ice chamber!), a wellness center, and a restaurant. In fact, there is something for everyone here, young and old alike.
Note that this place is very popular and especially on weekends it is crowded, and the queue for the checkout is even standing for an hour (we heard that it happens even longer). So it’s worth arriving first thing in the morning or in the evening (we were at 10:15 at the entrance and waited… 2 minutes to the ticket office :-)).
There are several places around the complex where you can eat or drink coffee. We went to the Termalna Bistro&Cafe located in a separate building. In the middle, at the end of the room, there is a corner for children.
Interesting fact: this year, there was a series of cosmetics based on thermal water from Uniejów!

Practical information about Uniejów Thermal Baths
Some practical information about the Thermal Baths themselves.
At the entrance, everyone gets a bracelet with an assigned locker – its number can be checked at the reader immediately upon entering the locker room. The locker rooms are coeducational, the showers, of course, are not. There is a specially designated locker room for families with children with a combined shower, a place to change and feed children.
How to get there? Driving from Lodz in the direction of Uniejów on road 72, turn left at the traffic circle in the center of Uniejów, cross the Warta River and immediately turn right. You will see the thermal baths from a distance. You can also quickly get there from the A2 highway using the Wartkowice (from Lodz) or Dąbie (from Poznan) exit.
Parking. There is a large parking lot under the complex, although much of it is on unpaved land. At the very entrance there are places for the disabled and families with small children.
Pricing: can be found here.
What is worth seeing in Uniejów?
In addition to the Uniejów Thermal Baths, the town itself offers several other interesting attractions. See what to see in Uniejów once you come to take advantage of the local Thermal Baths :)
Castle in Uniejów
The Castle of the Archbishops of Gniezno is part of the complex, but I have the impression that not many people coming to Uniejów know about this 14th century castle. It’s a shame, because it’s located literally a stone’s throw away, so it’s a shame not to go up and see the castle up close as well as the neighboring House of Creative Work.
In 2012, the property was converted into a hotel with a conference center, which also includes a restaurant open not only to hotel guests. Unfortunately, we were not given the opportunity to use it, because this time there was a reservation and outside guests were not allowed in.
Interestingly, the castle is heated with geothermal water – a very eco-friendly solution!
Legend of the White Lady
The legend of the White Lady is associated with the castle. Well, long ago, the treasure of the Bishops of Gniezno was hidden in the castle. It was so well hidden that no one knew where it was. However, news of its existence reached thieves who wanted to find it at all costs. They threatened to throw small children into the well if they did not find out where the treasure was located by morning. The idea to get out of this difficult situation came from a young man who was willing to sacrifice his life to save the residents of Uniejow.
He told Uniejka about his plan, who decided to take matters into her own hands and overtook her beloved. She led all the thieves towards the supposed place where the treasure was hidden – it was mud and marshland, which was hard to get out of. All of them, including the girl, perished in the wetlands, and Uniejka thus saved the lives of many residents. In the place where she died, hot springs have their beginning. Those arriving who have something on their conscience after today will hear the shrieks of thieves, and those without sin will see Uniejka’s reflection in the water.
The statue of this White Lady is located in the castle park.
Castle park
I don’t know about you, but we love autumn walks. Probably no other time of the year is more inviting for family walks than autumn. Although the leaves were in a great hurry to fall this year, we still had a chance to admire the autumn colors in the park around the castle.
There are more than 80 species of trees and shrubs here, and the park has a special nature trail with 13 points, showing the most interesting elements. We can walk among hornbeams, maples, oaks, lindens, collect leaves and learn about the local vegetation. Unfortunately, in autumn not all alleys are reachable (in other words: they are reachable but in wellingtons ;) ), but we can imagine how nice it is here in spring.
In close proximity to the castle is the aforementioned statue of the white lady, which can be seen from afar at this time of year.
In the area surrounding the castle and pool complex is a rope park, including a mini (safe!) version for children. Just by the pools, on the banks of the Warta River, a sizable playground has also been prepared for the little ones.
Milling homestead
Across Highway 72 is the Mill Homestead, a hotel and museum complex. From a distance, the two large mills that are almost the entrance gate to the homestead area are striking. The facilities here are relocated from Lodz province, with only the livestock building being from Uniejow.
After passing through the gate, you pass a thatched cottage on the right, which now houses a restaurant. This cottage dates back to the 19th century in the Zgierz (Skotniki) municipality. Inside there is a bread oven and a smokehouse. The open-air museum also includes the aforementioned livestock building, which serves as a stable, a mansion (now offering accommodation) and a barn.
One of the interesting experiences must be an overnight stay in one of the windmills! Someday we have to come back here.
Market Square in Uniejów
Since we are already in Uniejów, why not see the center of the city, i.e. the market square? It’s a 10-15 minute walk from the Thermal Baths, which begins by crossing the Warta River via a pedestrian-only bridge. You’ll get to the center without a problem, as you can see the neo-Baroque church tower, which is located just off the market square, from a distance.
There is no town hall in Uniejów, but the characteristic building in the center is the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in the 14th century. Inside the collegiate church, one can admire the chancel with its cross-ribbed vault, as well as the sarcophagus in the chapel of Bl. Bogumil, the patron saint of Uniejów. Even if you are not a fan of this type of attractions it is worth a look inside, it is really nice :)
In the central part of the market is a monument commemorating the events of 1939 (defense of the Warta crossing), and towards the church is a historic water pump. Numerous benches, well-kept vegetation are conducive to spending free time here.
The market is surrounded on three sides by townhouses and on the fourth by a square with a small thermal spring.
Wind Brewery
A relatively new place on the map of Uniejów. Browar Wiatr is a hotel, a restaurant, but also, and perhaps most importantly, a place where we can see how local beer is made. To take part in such a tour, it is necessary to sign up in advance, as tours are not available every day.
The place is a bit far from the center, it took us 20 minutes to walk from the Thermal Baths.
In the restaurant section you can have a pleasant time and relax after a busy day in Uniejów. There’s plenty of space, comfortable seats (including couches), plus pretty good food and an interesting selection of beers (locally made, of course).
We were particularly captivated by the children’s corner, which is separate, safe and full of toys and books. It is a very good place to eat something after an exhausting rest at the Uniejów Thermal Baths ;)
Our opinion about Terme Uniejów
There is no doubt that thanks to the investment in the Uniejów Thermal Baths, the city has flourished. New facilities are appearing here, new investments are being made, and tourism facilities are going from strength to strength. Looking at the high interest in the Terma and the queues on weekends, one can conclude that popularity has exceeded investors’ expectations.
We encourage you to stay in Uniejów at least for the whole day, and preferably for the weekend, and not limit yourself to entering the pools only.
