New year, new resolutions and plans! And if you’re wondering how and when to plan weekend trips, we’ll give you a hint on how to use only 10 vacation days to have as many as 38 days off for 5 weekend getaways (at least 3 days) and 2 trips lasting at least a week. Yes, you will still have 16 vacation days left-just in time for a 3-week vacation :)
We often get questions about how to travel so much while working a full-time job, when there are only 26 vacation days per year available. We believe that with sensible vacation planning you can really manage to spend a lot of days on the road, as we will show you in the coming year.
We have always respected every day of vacation at work and treated it as an opportunity to go away, if only for 3 days. While working full-time, I don’t think we’ve ever used a leave of absence for any purpose other than travel (in fact, it happened once – while “picking up” an outstanding leave after maternity and waiting for a place in the nursery ;) ). We always looked at the calendar for the whole year at the beginning of the year and thought about when we would take time off so as to create as many opportunities for trips as possible.
Of course, this does not mean that you also have to spend every free day traveling. We know that there are different situations, not everyone works full-time with fixed working hours, not everyone can take vacation when it suits them and, after all, there are companies that work according to different calendars, nevertheless, we hope that this post will help you plan your vacation accordingly so that it is suitable to your abilities.
In this post, we’ll show you how to make good use of your vacation days in 2023, so that you’ll have a few extended weekends, two vacations of more than a week, and still have a dozen vacation days left over for longer vacations.

Long weekends and days off in 2023
Is 2023 rich in opportunities for an extended weekend? By all means! Many days off fall outside the weekend. There are only two days off falling on the weekend: 1. January (Sunday) and 11. November (Saturday), and other than these, the remaining days off fall during the week.
The first are, of course, in January: 1. i 6. January. The first one falls on Sunday, admittedly, but the 6th. January on Friday which already gives us an extended weekend. You’ll have to wait until April for the next opportunity with a long weekend – Easter Monday falls on the 10th. April.
From here it’s pretty close to the May weekend, which is very gracious this year! 1. May falls on Monday and 3. May on Wednesday, so you only need to take 3 days off to have a continuous 9 days off. Nothing but to take advantage ;) The next opportunity for such a long break is not until the Christmas break in December, but about that in a moment.
Before that is Corpus Christi, which in 2023 is the 8th. June, on Thursday, of course. So taking one day off (Friday) awaits you up to 4 days off. The same will be true in August: 15. August falls on a Tuesday, so it’s worth taking Monday off to take advantage of the 4-day holiday.
The 1st of November is on a Wednesday this year, so you can take two days off before or after the Day of the Dead to take advantage of the 5 days off. 11. November falls on a Saturday, so here we will not go crazy :)
The Christmas holiday is an interesting one instead – the 25th. December is Monday, and December 26 is Tuesday. Let’s remember that the 1st is also free. January, which falls on Monday, so by taking just 3 days off, we have as many as 10 days off!
How many vacation days will be left after long weekends are used up?
To sum up the above, for all these days we only need 10 days of vacation from the pool of 26 available as standard. This means that you still have 16 days left “in your pocket”!
How to use them? It could be another 3 week trip, it could be one longer one, or any other combination your supervisor agrees to ;) What’s more, combined with one of the longer weekends, it can even give you a whole month of vacation!
Vacation calendar 2023
We, as a rule, print ourselves a calendar at the beginning of the year and on it we mark what trips and when we plan. With a colored highlighter we mark which days we want to go, and with a pen we add on the side where and how many days of vacation for this trip. When plans change so dramatically that we can’t read the notes it’s time for a new calendar, we just print it again ;)
This year, we decided to prepare such a free calendar for you! You can print it out for yourself and plan both shorter and longer trips together. We have given the calendar a travel character, and marked options for longer weekends, so you can immediately see where the greatest opportunities are :)
We make the calendar available to you free of charge in our store, here:
