Quite often you ask us where to fly for your first family vacation or your first short flight. The answer, however, is not so obvious and really depends on many factors. As expectant or newly minted parents, I’m sure you often ask yourself where will you fly on your first plane trip with your baby? What direction will be best? Is it better to fly somewhere far away or take a shorter route to begin with? And even… Is this even possible?
It is very possible that you have often heard texts like “Well, now travel will definitely stop” or “when the baby comes it will not be so colorful with travel anymore”, or even God forbid, a text like “I hope you will let travel go for a few years”….
In this post, we hope to dispel your doubts and inspire you to travel together. We will show that as much as possible it is possible and it is not so scary at all :) Of course, it’s not for everyone, but here we rely on our experiences, our friends, as well as inspiration taken from our social media followers.
Here we will focus only on directions, show that the world is still open to you. If you are looking for other practical information about the first flight with a baby, we recommend you our post: “” First airplane flight with a baby.

Where to fly on the first trip by plane with a child?
Assuming that you are ready and willing to travel to show your children the beauty of our world, you need to answer some questions:
- What age is the child and do you need children’s activities on site?
- What do you like to do on vacation? Do you want to relax, explore, or maybe you want to spend time being active?
- Do you want warmth, water that is pleasant to bathe in, or perhaps no conditions frighten you?
- How have you traveled so far? With a travel agency or on your own?
… and so on, the interview could be quite long to be able to actually give specific advice, but the answers to the above questions will surely already point you in an interesting direction a bit.
However, if you are interested in our experience and where we flew in the 1st year of our kids’ lives (we had a total of three “first years of life”, one of which is not yet finished and anything can happen ;-)), then below you will find a list of our trips (random order):
- Sicily,
- China x 2(Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Yangtze River cruise),
- Turkey x 2 – yes yes, all-inclusive!, that’s not a bad thing ;-),
- United States x 2(Florida and west coast),
- United Kingdom (London),
- Germany (Munich and from there to Italy by car),
- Azores,
- Morocco(Marrakech),
- Ukraine(Lviv).
As you can see, not all of them are (yet) described on our blog :)
Of course, we travel a lot more with children, but these are just the destinations we’ve been to until they were 1 year old. If we were to include even 1.5 years of life, the list would be even longer and more interesting ;)
So, if you have any questions for us on our facebook or instagram we are always happy to suggest something, but at least write us what your experiences, preferences, what you want to do locally and then it will be easier for us to advise something 🙏 🙃
Choosing a destination for your first trip, inspiration from others
In addition to looking for information on the Internet, you can also ask your friends. Surely you have such closer or further acquaintances who travel further without much trouble. But there are bound to be those for whom a trip to the supermarket is an insurmountable journey. And that’s not a bad thing. We also have such friends who liked to travel, but for various reasons gave it up for a while having toddlers or now bigger children. Sometimes it happens.
However, there is no need to immediately assume that it will not work out, and you should just try it. There are absolutely no medical contraindications for even a few months old, healthy baby to fly even long distances. Of course, it’s always good to consult just such a decision with your doctor, especially if it’s our first child and we’re not quite sure.
However, let’s get to the specifics? So where do you take your child on his or her first plane trip? You already know our experience, but we asked followers on our channels. Below you will find the most common suggestions based on individual experience of traveling with infants or even older children (random order):
- Greece (Crete, Rhodes, Kos…)
- Cyprus
- Turkey
- Tenerife
- Sicily
- Faroe Islands
- Mexico
- Paris
- Thailand
- Italy (various regions)
- Singapore
- USA (Florida, west coast, Hawaii)
- Macedonia
- Albania
- Madeira
- Bulgaria
- Barcelona
- Malta
- Malaysia
- Indonesia
- Dubai
- New Zealand
- Vienna
- Stockholm
- Fuerteventura
- Sardinia

- Portugal
- Cuba
- Canada
- Croatia
- Denmark
- Dominican Republic

- …or even a flight across Poland like Wroclaw-Gdansk and much more.
As you can see, the world is wide open and there is no need to be afraid of texts like “well, now the flying is over…”!
