Admittedly, these will not be typical documentaries or historical movies, but ordinary productions, which, in our opinion, will allow you to feel the atmosphere of the USA, especially the wild west. We have been seduced recently especially by the first item, but the other options are also interesting :)

1. Yellowstone – a contemporary saga of ranch life
The Yellowstone series is an excellent example of a contemporary story about the US West. The story of the Dutton family, which manages one of the largest ranches in the U.S., is full of drama, intrigue and the struggle to keep the land, which developers, businessmen and Indian tribes are trying to take over. The series perfectly captures the atmosphere of Montana’s rugged landscapes and the life of modern ranchers.

2. No Country for Old Men – a harsh tale of morality and crime
The Coen brothers ‘ film “It’s Not a Country for Old Men ” (the original No Country for Old Men) is a thriller set in the Texas wilderness. The story depicts a brutal world where everyone has their own morality and the only certainty is violence. The film perfectly captures the atmosphere of the American West, with its endless spaces, heat and tension that lurk in every corner.

The film “All for Life” ( the original Into the Wild) tells the story of a young man who decides to abandon life in civilization and embarks on a lonely journey across America, eventually reaching Alaska. The film shows the beauty of the wilderness, the harshness of the wilderness and the need to find the meaning of life among nature. The climate of the American West is strongly present here, with its infinite spaces and contrasts between freedom and solitude.

This is a film that perfectly shows the harshness of the nature of the West and the incredible strength of the human spirit.

The film Wild(original), starring Reese Witherspoon, is the story of a woman who decides to hike along the Pacific Crest Trail after a traumatic experience. The film shows the beauty and ruggedness of the mountain trails of the US West, from the deserts of California to the mountain paths of Oregon.

6. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs – a contemporary western from the Coen brothers
Although The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is an anthology of short films that maintain the western convention, this production is not a typical representative of the genre. However, right on their heels is the tenacious sheriff, played by Jeff Bridges. It’s a film that perfectly captures the atmosphere of the modern West – a place full of social and economic tensions, where the past and present mix against the backdrop of the endless expanses of Texas.

8. Logan – a western in the world of superheroes
Although Logan is a film set in the X-Men universe, the plot, tone and setting of the film have much in common with the atmosphere of classic westerns. The story of Wolverine’s final days, it is set in the wilderness of the Western US and shows him as a weary hero facing new challenges in a brutal, post-apocalyptic world. The harshness of the landscape, the moral dilemmas and the struggle for survival are key elements of the film, reminiscent of the best westerns.

9. the Rider – a story about the cowboys of our time
The Rider is a film that tells the story of a young cowboy who, after a dangerous accident, is forced to give up his life’s calling – rodeo. This is an intimate tale of passion, dreams and the search for meaning, in which landscapes play as important a role as the characters.
