In our mini poll on Instagram, it came out that very few people know or have been to the village of Lipce Reymontowskie. So today we invite you to discover another place in the Lodz province that is famous for the Polish Nobel laureate.
Lipce Reymontowskie is a small village located between Lodz and Warsaw, in Skierniewice County. By the time we got here, we had viewed it several hundred times (if not more!) from the windows of the Lodz-Warsaw train. We passed quickly by train and only through the windows could we see the station and the stationmaster’s house, where Wladyslaw Reymont lived and worked in the late 19th century. At the time, the writer was still completely unknown, but it was here that he was able to draw inspiration for writing “Peasants,” the novel for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. And although the action of Peasants takes place in Lipce, apart from the name itself it has little to do with the real Lipce.

At the outset, it should be added that the village has not always been called Lipce Reymontowskie. Before that it was simply Lipce, and the Reymont member was added only in 1983 (April 1 to be exact, but it was by no means an April Fool’s joke ;) ).

Of course, there is no shortage of objects in the village associated with the famous Polish Nobel Prize winner, even though he spent only a few years here working as a helper to a trackman. Although one may get the impression that everything revolves around Reymont, this is not the case, and contrary to the names, the various sites do not center solely around him and his work.
Let’s start our journey in Lipce with the brick trackman’s house mentioned at the very beginning of the post, which is located right next to the tracks, between Lodz and Warsaw. This time we didn’t just view it from the train, but walked up to the house itself to get a closer look. The facility cannot be visited inside, the only thing left is to view it from the outside, where there is a commemorative plaque and a symbolic monument right next to it. There may not be much to see here, but you can feel a more homely atmosphere thanks to the out-of-the-way location and the flowers in the home garden, and this atmosphere is only disturbed by the modern trains speeding by right next door.
However, Lipce Reymontowskie is not only the aforementioned house, which is located at the edge of the village. While here, we recommend walking to other facilities that are more interesting.
W The Regional Museum named after him. Wladyslaw Reymont attention is already attracted by the buildings themselves – the museum’s headquarters is a former manufactory, belonging to the Winkel family (production in the factory operated until the second half of the 20th century). The museum features traditional folk costumes, machinery that was used to produce textiles and, of course, exhibits related to the life and work of Reymont.
Right next door to the museum is the Reymont Center – the People’s Homestead. It is an open-air museum with cottages, a cowshed, a barn and a granary and, aside from the name, has little to do with Reymont himself.
We recommend the place for walks and photo shoots – this mini open-air museum is definitely more modest than the open-air museum in Maurzyce, but thus also less besieged.
The homestead also features wooden sculptures of “Peasants” characters.

This museum will probably surprise you! Walking around Lipce out of nowhere, we spotted a military aircraft in one of the courtyards! Looking further through the fence, you can see military equipment, cannons – nothing but to go in and explore.
The Museum of Armed Deeds is a private collection documenting the battles that took place near Lipce Reymontowskie. It is a rather modest museum: in a few rooms and in the courtyard there are numerous exhibits ranging from documents, photographs, soldiers’ equipment, costumes, through cannons, to a tank and an airplane!

According to the information on the Lipce Reymontowskie commune website, to enter the museum you need to make an appointment by phone at the indicated number, but we managed to get in with a shove. However, if you want to make sure you don’t kiss the doorknob then it’s a good idea to call and give advance notice of your visit :)

Another place that brings together private collections is the Gallery of Antiques and Regional Memorabilia of Mr. Zbigniew Stania. Impressive is the number of artifacts collected that are closely related to regional history, culture and customs. Here one can find costumes, tools, equipment, cottage furnishings, documents, stamps as well as Lowicz cut-outs, spiders (these are by Mr. Zbigniew and his wife).
Here there is no shortage of references to the famous writer and we can see more than a hundred (!) editions of “Peasants”.

What is worth seeing in the immediate area? A stay in Lipce Reymontowskie alone, depending on your pace, abilities and interests, can take 2 hours, half a day or even a whole day.

Lipce Reymontowskie is located between Lodz and Skierniewice, about 50 kilometers from Lodz.
The fastest way to get there by car is via the A2 highway: take the exit at the Łowicz junction and go in the direction of Jeżów, about 12 kilometers. Access is also possible by smaller roads – take the road towards Brzeziny and continue north on DW No. 704.
There are several small parking lots in Lipce Reymontowskie, you should have no problems finding free spaces ;)
It will take about 30 minutes to get from Lodz (more precisely, from Lodz Widzew station) to Lipce by train. There are two carriers to choose from: ŁKA or Polregio.
In Lipce Reymontowskie you would sooner go to a banquet hall than to a restaurant ;) Of the restaurants, the only one left is Karczma u Boryny (well, it couldn’t be called otherwise!) with traditional Polish dishes.

In good conscience, we recommend staying overnight in Lodz and getting to Lipce Reymontowskie by car or train :)
We recommend Lipce Reymontowskie as a typical day trip from Lodz. When driving from further afield, we recommend combining with a visit to the points we mentioned above to plan a full day or weekend trip.
Lipce Reymontowskie surprises with the number of museum objects for such a small town. For the most part, these facilities are quite small and modest but run with tremendous dedication by people with passion.
