We at the site spent two and a half days, and it should be noted that the days were short. Unfortunately, Polish autumn, despite its wonderful colors and hues, provides us with fewer and fewer hours of sunshine each day.

On the other hand, our lack of discipline or organization meant that we didn’t leave the hotel with the sunrise… but don’t you go for a weekend to relax, not to strain yourself extra? ;-)

We had a few ideas about what we wanted to see and where to go, and although we didn’t manage to implement them 100%, we still count the weekend as a success. On the one hand, we hit the sunny weather (which is not so obvious on a November weekend), so we had favorable conditions for walking and exploring the city, and on the other hand we could spend the evenings in the comfort of the couch entertaining Olive or watching TV with a glass of wine, which happens very rarely at home :)

But let’s cut to the chase – below we have compiled a list of places we saw that we think are worth seeing during a weekend in the tri-city (random order):

Gdansk Shipyard with the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers and the European Solidarity Center

While the Shipyard and the symbolic historic gate probably don’t need to be introduced to anyone, not everyone knows that the Shipyard site has been home to the European Solidarity Center since 2014. This modern building is both a place for exhibitions, offices, library, children’s room but also a terrace overlooking the Shipyard. The most important element here, however, is the permanent exhibition showing the history of Solidarity.

It is also worth mentioning that there is a free viewing point at the top. The views are rather poor, but once you are there it is worth spending those 5 minutes :)

Right next to the gate is the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers 1970 – symbolic three crosses reign at the entrance to the shipyard, with an anchor hanging from each.

Still a souvenir photo at the gate and you can move on ;)

Gdansk – Old Town

Well, it is impossible to choose one place, so we enter the whole area of the Old Town;) Distances are not great, and walking is pure pleasure (as long as it is reasonably warm). Of course, from the obvious we take our steps to St . Mary’s Church, see the statue of Neptune, take a photo of the Crane from the bridge and admire the intricate decorations of the facades at Dlugi Targ.

Devil’s Mill

We also have something new :) A novelty on the Gdansk market – AmberSky observation wheel. We probably would have ridden, the desire was expressed by 2/3 of our crew, but given the weights of the individual votes, we had nothing to talk about and went to look for a warm place where you can eat and rest in peace ;-)

Nevertheless, we would love to see the Danzig skyline from this perspective next time.

Oliwa Park

If you’re looking for a place to go for a walk, you can drive up to the lovely Oliva Park. It features the Abbots’ Palace (the Contemporary Art Branch of the National Museum in Gdansk), a palm house and a small waterfall.

And if only it were warmer, nothing but to spread a blanket and spend a lazy half-day :)

Murals in Gdansk

The Zaspa estate is famous for its numerous murals. We have not yet encountered such a large number of murals in such an area. On almost every block we can find something, and even if there is nothing on the walls at the moment, it is probably on the entrance to the staircase, and if it is not there, we look further by looking at other buildings.

A very cool initiative, showing how a typical block of flats can be transformed and given an individual character.

Polish Post Defenders Square

We ended up here a little by accident, a little along the way. The Polish Post Museum and the Polish Post Defenders Monument are located here.

An interesting place that we had no idea existed before.

Panorama of Gdańsk

We had plans to admire the city’s skyline, among other things. From the so-called Zieleniak or Devil’s Mill described above. Another vantage point is also the European Solidarity Center, described above.

However, there was no need for this, as we had a beautiful view from the 15th floor of our Mercure Gdansk Old Town hotel.

Westerplatte

Another typically historic site. We were already here after sunset, at the end of the day, after visiting Gdansk. The area is open, so you can arrive even at midnight, but unfortunately the information plates or maps are not illuminated.

At the top, under the monument itself, it is impossible to drive a stroller, due to the stairs.

Rewa and Reeves Headland

Typical tourist destination and although we were definitely in low season, free parking spaces are lacking :( One dreads to think what goes on here in high season. And all in all, we are not surprised, because the beach is nice, especially picturesque is the Rewski Headland.

If we were in the summer, our screen would have just stood at the end of it :)

Hel Spit and Hel

The place is quite far from Gdansk, but we decided to take the opportunity to be by the sea so we rushed there as well. And I’m afraid to admit that we’ve never been there before ;)

There are several typical tourist attractions in Hel (such as the lighthouse, the seal sanctuary and the Coastal Defense Museum), and we especially recommend walking along the new (2013) promenade to the very end of the peninsula. The surface is ideal for strollers – planks, light vibrations make the child immediately calm down ;)
