Do you travel a lot with an infant? Is your mode of transportation a car? Below we recommend you 9 things that make it very easy for us to ride in the car with an infant. This further as well as shorter.
Table of contents
1. mirror
A car mirror for a toddler is useful especially if you drive alone in a car, such as around town. You can then see well in the rearview mirror whether the baby is asleep or not, but the mirror has no magic power and will not stop the baby from crying in any way.
There is a chance that the child will notice the mirror, see his reflection and play a while in this way, but of course it is not a golden mean for the whole trip :) If we are going on a longer trip together, we mount the mirror just among other things anyway. because of this.
However, the mirror in the car does not pass its test after dusk, because you simply can’t see anything. There are glowing, playing mirrors, but for us they are more scary than friendly ;)
2. roller blinds, curtains for windows
Blinds and curtains come in handy to keep the sun from shining straight into your eyes. We didn’t realize before how much it could bother us, especially such an infant. So we saved ourselves in the beginning with tetra diapers ;)
Whether sling or curtain – the more interesting patterns, the better, more curiosity + extra toy for the baby :) Tinted windows at the back also help a little.
3. moist wipes
Moist wipes are a must for every parent! :) They come in handy anytime and anywhere, not just in the car.
4. rattle
A rattle, but necessarily one to hang on the car seat. A cool, catchy, colorful toy that is always at hand. In our case, a mascot with a tiny mirror works nicely.
5. other small toys
Squeaker/mascot/book – something the baby will be able to mumble to his heart’s content if he is not sleeping :) At the beginning we had a contrast book, an accordion book, which can be placed in the baby’s feet to look at the distinct shapes and colors. Now we mostly use rattles, teethers or colorful squeakers.
If the baby already has a favorite toy, it is obviously a must have during our travels :)
6. changing pads
We don’t mention pampers (we don’t have to, do we? ;)), but we probably wouldn’t want to put the baby on a blanket that can unexpectedly change its color? ;)
Changing pads are very useful not only on the road. Disposable or reusable. You can use them in the car when you change the baby’s pecker on the seat next to you or in a public restroom on the changing table. In summer, of course, you can also use the grass in the parking lot ;)
7. waterproof bag
We’ve had several emergencies in which such a waterproof bag saved us. Because what to do with wet or dirty clothes while traveling?
The waterproof, reusable bag we permanently had in the car was the perfect choice (although we ourselves don’t know why we bought it in the first place). Today we take it with us always :)
8. blanket
It’s always a good idea to have at least one blanket with you, at least one! ;) It is known, with a small child blankets are never enough. They can be used to cover up, to put the baby in a different position while stationary, etc.
Attention! We always place the blanket ABOVE the straps! Never under! Why? Just look at the instructions on how an infant should be strapped into a car seat during the winter. In thick jackets, or just in blankets under the belts, the child can more easily just slip out of the fastened belts in the event of an impact.
9. car seat + docking base
A car seat for small children and especially infants is an obvious one, but it needs to be mentioned. In addition, not everyone realizes how much time and nerves can be saved with an additional base for the car seat.
Mega comfortable and importantly, safer (!), the seat is more stable and docking bases with seats in crash tests have better results than the seats themselves. The whole thing is mounted backwards, of course!
