Where to go on vacation in Poland?

Where is it worthwhile to go for a few or a dozen days in Poland? Times are not easy, but we will take our chances. We have some suggestions for you for shorter and longer trips, which we hope will be possible this vacation.

We have prepared for you an interesting list of various destinations and places in Poland that are ideal for a few days or more. So if you are looking for inspiration for trips during which you will not be bored, you rather want to avoid large cities and clusters of people, and you do not want to sit in one place just to explore the wider area, then this post will be perfect for you :)

What guided us in preparing the following list?

Above all, we show places that are less obvious…. We deliberately skip most of the mountain and coastal resorts, we want to encourage you to visit places you probably know about, but always put off. Consider the later now. We have chosen places where there is both something to explore, but there is also a lot of nature around, so fans of active recreation will also have something to do.

Below we present you with a list of places that we think are worth considering when planning such a vacation in Poland. Here we rely solely on our experience. We describe only the places where we have been ourselves :) Of course, places worth visiting in Poland, but all of them could not be accommodated here. If you know of more interesting places, let us know in the comments!

>> If you are already thinking of going somewhere further afield, we recommend you to read our post: Where to go on vacation in 2024? Our types!

At the very bottom of the post you will find a map with all the points marked.

Here we go…

Podlasie

Podlasie is a direction that we ourselves have neglected and have only recently begun to discover its beautiful corners. It started with a stay in the Zaborek Wilderness, getting to know the area, and since then, almost every year we return to Podlasie to discover more places bit by bit.

For us, Podlasie means tranquility, nature, fantastic cuisine, great accommodations (we especially recommend the above-mentioned Pension Uroczysko Zaborek and Ziołowy Zakątek), the possibility of active rest and unique wooden architecture.

There are as many as four National Parks in Podlasie, and almost all of Podlasie is within the so-called “National Parks”. Green Lungs of Poland. So if you want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, breathe fully it is best in Podlasie!

What is particularly worth seeing locally?

We are enthralled by wooden architecture, and Podlasie hides many wooden gems. The most well-known and obvious are, for example, the Tatar mosque in Kruszyniany or the so-called “Tatar mosque” in Kruszyniany. Land of Open Shutters. Plus many small wooden churches, Orthodox churches, mosques – a real religious mish-mash. You can also climb Mount Grabarka, with its thousands of wooden Orthodox crosses.

Podlasie is also home to national parks: the Bialowieza National Park, Biebrza National Park, Narew National Park and Wigry National Park. Where if not here will we find better conditions to admire nature?

And don’t forget about sports activities, and be sure to bring your bicycles or rent them locally! The local area is all too begging to hop on a bike and spin miles. We tried our hand at a short section of the Green Velo, but the Podlasie Stork Trail is also worth noting. And if not bicycles, how about kayaking on the Biebrza River or around Augustow?

We plan to go to Podlasie again this year!

Lodz Voivodship

We traditionally recommend central Poland, as it is still the less obvious destination for vacations.

It is worth at least one day to visit Lodz, take a look at the magnificent EC1 complex or Manufaktura (not necessarily for shopping purposes, in fact, we recommend avoiding the shopping mall part), visit the Louvre (or Poznański Palace), follow the trail of Lodz murals, or take a look at the vibrant Piotrkowska 217 or OFF Piotrkowska Street.

You can read about our recommended attractions in Lodz in this post. If you are traveling with children, we also have a dedicated post about attractions for toddlers in Lodz.

If you are interested in castles and palaces, we especially recommend our post about 13 castles of Lodz province, and here you will find 9 ideas for so-called one-day trips in central Poland. We write in it, among other things. about the thermal baths in Uniejów, the Jeziorsko Lagoon, the Arboretum in Rogów, Arcadia, Nieborów and many other interesting places. There is something for everyone: both fans of active recreation and sightseeing.

We also recommend our post about Orientarium and Zoo in Lodz !

In each of the above-mentioned places you will not experience crowds (except, of course, Manufaktura on a shopping day) so all the more welcome to our beloved Lodz and super places in the Lodz province.

We also recommend you our video about attractions in central Poland:

Sandomierz and surroundings

How about the capital of Polish apples? Although some people associate Sandomierz with a Polish TV series about a priest who rode a bicycle, for us the area is better known for its apple orchards or the Wine Route.

Sandomierz is a charming town located on the Vistula River, one of the oldest in Poland. We recommend visiting during the week, as it can get crowded on weekends, however. We wrote about the various attractions of Sandomierz here.

We encourage you to explore the city during the week, and head out on the weekend along the aforementioned trails (Apple or Wine trails). Swietokrzyskie is said to produce the best Polish wines due to its loess soil and good microclimate. Here you can tour the vineyards, gain knowledge about viticulture and, of course, taste :)

For great views, go to the Pepper Mountains, and if you’re a fan of sightseeing, be sure to check out Krzyżtopór Castle in Ujazd.

If you are traveling with children then JuraPark Bałtów, Pacanow or the more remote Oceaniki and Magic Gardens are worth a look.

Muskauer Arc

In Poland, and as if in Germany ;) However, we hope that this year the restrictions will allow free movement to our western neighbors and it will be possible to jump at least for a day to the German Muskau Park, or even see something more in Saxony.

The area is famous for Muskauer Park, bisected by the Lusatian Neisse River, which marks the border between Poland and Germany, and although it’s on the German side that the more interesting sites are located, it’s also worth taking a walk on the Polish part.

Less well known is the land of colorful lakes on the Muskau Arc. They shimmer in almost all the colors of the rainbow. So if you love nature then you will probably enjoy it here. Anyway, it should be added that the geopark is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Check out our post about Saxony and Upper Lusatia, where you’ll find a lot of info from the region.

Warmia and Mazury

Warmia and Mazury in peak season? As much as possible :) Nevertheless, we encourage you to discover the less popular corners of these lands – we explored them in 2020 and were delighted with the variety of attractions on site.

So it is worth looking for accommodation in less crowded places, and go to Mikolajki itself either during the week or in autumn ;)

So what to do in Warmia and Mazury? Relax in the lap of nature! We recommend taking walks in the pine forests (the Tabor pines that grow here have excellent health properties), getting into a kayak, boat or yacht and sailing to the middle of the lake to enjoy the peace and quiet, peeping at animals such as at the PAN Research Station and Deer Farm, or going on a Zoo Safari.

Masuria is a lot of places where we can learn about history, learn about objects like. Skansen in Olsztynek, Mazurolandia, Wilczy Szaniec, etc.

And if, however, someone prefers swimming pools, thermal baths and aquaparks, he will also find something for himself here (for example. Warmia Thermal Baths or Tropikana in Mikolajki).

You can read more about how else to spend your time here in a dedicated post.

And a few years ago, before we even started traveling with children we went on a cruise on the Elbląg Canal, which we also recommend to you for the coming summer. After all, it is one of the Seven Wonders of Poland, You can read more about it in the text about the Elbląg Canal.

Castles of Lower Silesia

This was one of the more interesting trips in Poland, which we described in detail in the entry Lower Silesia – not only castles and palaces. Although we were not limited to castles, as our route also included palaces, the Basilica in Strzegom and the Gross Rosen Museum in Rogoznica. All facilities are described in the cited entry.

We visited a total of a dozen sites, and still skipped a few and left them for later. It is worth planning more time than just a weekend for Lower Silesia ;)

The region is full of a variety of sites – on the one hand, we have well-preserved castles that can be visited, and on the other, decaying ruins where entry is forbidden. Among the most interesting sites are: Czocha Castle and Książ Castle, which, in addition to sightseeing, offer many other attractions: shows, workshops and fairs are held here. However, we recommend visiting during the week rather than on weekends if you want to avoid the crowds.

Is it worth going to Poland?

These are just a few suggestions that we hope you will use :) Because we believe that the answer to the question asked is obvious. It is worth going to Poland and exploring its charms. We’ve known this all along, it’s just that the near always gets put off. And it is fortunate in the misfortune that right now is the “later”.
