There are some places we like to return to, not just in our thoughts. And they don’t have to be immediately the most beautiful places somewhere at the end of the world…. Most importantly, they are special to us.
We were encouraged to write this post by our upcoming wedding anniversary and our first out-of-town trip for the three of us. We will show you a place to which we have tremendous affection.
Who would have thought that it has been 5 years…. Five years ago, at this time, we were putting the finishing touches on all the wedding-related matters. It was a period when we were both changing jobs, so no trips were on our minds, and we could only dream of a honeymoon. So we decided, if there is any chance and opportunity, we will go on a honeymoon, but nothing by force. And so we spread our trip in installments: first an all-inclusive weekend in Poland, and a year later an all-inclusive in the Dominican Republic. In retrospect, we’re glad we didn’t catch anything colloquial after the wedding. It was worth waiting longer!
A magical place
An integral part of the nuptials is a photo shoot in increasingly fancy locations and more original arrangements. For us, the most important thing was simply to have a souvenir. Photos during the wedding and reception, as well as an outdoor ceremony in a beautiful location. We also didn’t want to spend a fortune on the session, so we didn’t take photographers to the Dominican Republic ;)
We wanted local, atmospheric and romantic. That’s why we chose the lovely palace in Nieborow, near Lowicz. We had also planned to have some photos in the nearby garden at Arcadia, but it took us almost a full day in Nieborów itself (however, if you are interested in sightseeing alone, you can easily manage to see both sites in one day).
Nieborow and Arcadia are located about halfway on the A2 between Lodz and Warsaw. Easy access makes it an ideal place for a day or weekend getaway. The area is home to the famous SGGW Arboretum in Rogow and a narrow-gauge railroad.
The easiest and best way to get here is by car. Travel by public transport is more complicated, requiring transfers and combining different modes. There are free parking spaces on the street below the Palace in Nieborow – we never had a problem finding a free spot.
Nieborów Palace
The Radziwill Palace along with the garden in Nieborów and Helena Radziwill’s Romantic Garden in Arkadia are part of the National Museum in Warsaw, which probably saved them from complete destruction after 1945. Both facilities are open to visitors for a fee, with an additional fee to enter the Palace itself. Prices in Nieborow are as follows:
The history of Nieborow Palace dates back to the 14th century, when a wooden mansion stood here, expanded in the 16th century and then destroyed during the Swedish invasions. On its site, a two-story Baroque palace was built in the 17th century.
Inside the palace we can admire the preserved furnishings of the rooms, the ceramic-tiled staircase, halls, studies and bedrooms, fully equipped, decorated with numerous paintings and portraits. Comparing to the castles we recently visited, one has to admit that the Palace in Nieborow stands out, if only by the number of preserved exhibits.
We especially like the garden/park around the palace, which is kept in the French style, with atmospheric benches, sculptures and a pond.
And here is the panorama:
There are also free-standing buildings: the Manufaktura, the Hunting Pavilion, the Orangery and the Stables. It is an ideal place for a walk, being there on a weekday morning, we were the only people visiting.
This is what our wedding session looked like at this location:
Anyway, we ended up here quite often for photo shoots. However, we must point out here that doing photo shoots is an additional fee.
All of our memories of this session came flooding back when we recently returned to Nieborów Palace with Oliva. It is a good place to walk with a stroller, even despite the high temperature, as the water and plenty of shade gave us plenty of cooling. Unfortunately, visiting the palace with a stroller can be too difficult.
This is its own one of those places to which we often return, not only with memories…. We were there as newlyweds and newlywed parents :) We have been there many times and are glad that not far from Lodz there are such wonderful places, as if taken out of another era.
